Laura and Jerry have four smart, outgoing, playful and just plain awesome kids. The siblings all clearly love each other. They like having fun and just being together. It was so great to just watch them being themselves, that I didn’t mind that the weather didn’t collaborate on our first day. Because of the heavy cloud cover, we had to meet again for their fall family portraits. It actually started raining the second time, as well, but by then we had plenty of great family photos to choose from including “the walking one” that Laura specifically came to me after š Enjoy!

I first heard about Help-Portrait over a year ago. Every year on the second Saturday in December photographers and other volunteers from all over the world work together in their communities to organize and offer free portrait sessions for people in need. I was immediately drawn to the idea and offered my help. Last SaturdayĀ I had an opportunity to contribute my time at The River Food Pantry and felt fulfilled in the process – not only because I was able to help families in need, but also to connect with other Madison area photographers and other great people volunteering for the event who were contributing their time and talents as well. A local photographer Amandalynn Jones is a power engine behind Help-Portrait Madison event. Thanks to her big heart and awesome organization skills 585 people (and 14 dogs!) will receive a beautiful gift of family portraits this Holiday season. These are the numbers just from the last weekend. This week there will be another Help-Portrait Madison event at Middleton Outreach Ministry where even more families will benefit from this worldwide movement of passion š Below are some behind-the scenes shots of the wonderful volunteers and the organizers in action. Enjoy!

Joe is inspired by people who work hard to get what they want. Joe himself does know what he wants – his dream is to be a CEO of some international Fortune 500 company. I’m sure that if he keeps learning from others experiences, one day he will become an international businessman. I liked how – in one of his senior session outfits – he looked like he already reached this goal. Right now Joe is in his senior year at Sauk Prairie High School and he’s looking forward to college and an independent life. We met at his house for the session and were able to combine Joe’s senior photos with a few family portraits as well. The light, the backgrounds and the location were perfect. Enjoy your last year of high school and good luck with everything you do in the future!

Everyday I try to find some time to count my blessings. For me it’s a great thing to do before getting up or going to sleep and especially helpful on more challenging days when it helps to put everything in perspective. These three beautiful people are always on top of my list. š I’m also very grateful to my friend and photographer Justyna from Funky Monkey PhotographyĀ for capturing our family so beautifully this fall. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
The day before their fall engagement session Clemence ran her first full marathon. Jon was cheering her on during the run and later massaged her sore muscles, which helped her recover afterwards. He did a great job because a day later Clemence was ready to dance, laugh and have fun during their shoot. I loved the outfits they chose for their engagement photos. This was probably the most elegant engagement session I had so far. Some pieces had a very sentimental value to Clemence, such as her Grandmother’s vintage blue hat or her Mom’s cute red dress. I’m not a fashion expert but to me they both looked very European š Thanks for stopping by Sauk Prairie area on your way back home from Twin Cities to Chicago! I’m glad we had a chance to make this session happen. Enjoy the photos!

There are many fall sessions waiting to be posted, but I thought about sharing a little inspiration today on the blog. I am constantly inspired by our amazing 93-year-old neighbor Phyllis. At her age she is still full of life, good energy, gratitude, optimism and youthful spring in her step. Phyllis spends her summer months here in Prairie du Sac, WI and winters in Florida. Both here and there she regularly plays tennis in several leagues and it was one of my goals for the past couple of years to capture her in action. Finally, last summer, I made it happen. I watched Phyllis playing doubles with three other guys (all of them decades younger of course) and scoring! With seemingly limitless energy she is also often the first to join kids when she sees them playing. It seems as if Phyllis forgot to grow old. If only we all could live a life into our 90s with such youthful attitudes and abilities. I hope I’ll be at least a little bit like her when I grow up. Enjoy the photos! and let me know what you think about our neighbor š

Sondra and Tom – Extended Family Photos, Plain WI Photographer
Extended Families , Families , Kids
Sondra contacted me a few months in advance to plan their extended family photos. With 19 people (including ten kids!) this extended family session was probably one of the most challenging for me this year. With so many people involved it wasn’t easy to schedule the date that would suit everybody but we did find one Saturday and just hoped for the best weather. The forecast was predicting rains but fortunately everybody was able to come to Plain, WI a few hours earlier and we ended up having perfect weather for photos. With so many kids I had to work fast to keep everybody happy and focused. We started with a few shots of the entire extended family and then followed with quite a long list of other configurations of people: just the kids, parents, grandparents, cousins, grandparents with grand-kids, immediate families etc… Two of those families I already knew from previous sessions so it was great to see them again. Kids grow so quickly and it’s fun to watch them grow at different stages.
