Katie and Joe – Engagement Session, Sauk Prairie Wedding Photographer
Katie and Joe took me for a hike for their engagement session. I love hiking with my family and I am always open when my clients have similar ideas. The path was all uphill and we were breathing pretty hard when we finally reached the top but it was sooo worth the effort. The view was breathtaking and for a while we were just peacefully soaking in beautiful Wisconsin landscape. At our wedding consultation Joe shared with me that he seldom likes how he looks on photos. I was up for a challenge and promised that I would do my best to change his belief. He is such a nice, caring and deeply in love guy and I think I was able to capture this
Both Katie and Joe are fun together and easy to photograph, stay tuned for their wedding in October!

Alicia and Ted – Beloved Photography, Madison WI Photographer
This session was a special photographic adventure for me. My first attempt to do an entire shoot without a typical “look at the camera and smile” expression. Instead I wanted this session to focus on a relationship and on celebrating love. My intent was to create more genuine, moving images. Alicia and Ted were perfect for this Beloved approach and open to experiment with me. They are high school sweethearts who’ve been together for over twenty five years and are amazing, dedicated parents to six great kids. We met on one cloudy weekday morning to capture with my camera what they are like together and why. It was beautiful to experience how they connected with each other in a completely genuine and heart-warming way. I loved that, and not just because I got some wonderfully authentic images but also because it seemed like they really enjoyed the experience as well
Here are just a few of their beautiful real expressions and emotions I was able to capture…

Engagement Photo Guest Book – Wedding Photography, Sauk Prairie WI
Do you remember Brandy and Casey’s winter engagement session I blogged about a couple of months ago? The images we created then were perfect for a new product that I thought I would share with you today and that I am going to offer to my wedding clients this year. It’s a custom designed guest book featuring photos from your engagement session. A creative way to show off your unique engagement portraits and definitely an unforgettable keepsake. Fun prompts will for sure inspire your family, friends and other guests to sign in at the reception and give you some marriage advice, write stories, blessings, wishes or just simple congratulations.
You are seeing here a 10×10 book with beautiful genuine leather cover and hinged paper. I love it that when opened, the book lays flat. Inside, matte pages and blank spaces provide an easy writing surface. Archival quality will guarantee that the book will last for generations and your children’s children will be able to see it. Isn’t it better than a few files on a disc somewhere in a drawer?

Mira and Chris – Beloved Couples Session, Sauk Prairie WI Photographer
Today I want to share with you one of my biggest WPPI discoveries this year. While in Vegas I had a chance to meet Jesh de Rox and watch a couple of his short presentations about an emerging genre of photography called “Beloved”. Seeing Jesh work and witnessing amazing results he was creating with couples who volunteered to be his “muses” was an amazing experience. It was unbelievable how in the middle of a crowded, busy and noisy tradeshow floor he could draw beautiful, authentic, deep emotions from his subjects. It was hard to hold back tears. Immediately I was hooked, it felt so right and I wanted to know more. I learned about The Beloved Collective that serves and supports the amazing community of photographers who are integrating Beloved Technique into their portrait sessions through products, online training courses and an annual conference. I am so excited to be now a part of this amazing group. In addition to launching a new website the Beloved Collective has just released the first Family Field Guide, which brings the power of Beloved Technique to the fields of family & children photography. I bought it and started studying it immediately
I will be participating in a Beloved training soon and can’t wait to incorporate this technique with my clients. I have always strived to capture people’s inner beauty, but I admit that at times it was challenging. Now with the Beloved approach I am confident I can do it with anybody, even people who don’t feel comfortable at all in front of the camera.
I actually couldn’t wait to try the new technique and I had my first beloved session while still in Vegas. Mira and Chris have been married for over 20 years. When I explained the concept to them they were not sure if they would be my best models. Fortunately I was able to convince them otherwise and I am so glad I did! It was beautiful to witness how quickly they opened up and expressed their authentic emotions, genuine personalities and love they feel for each other. After so may years it was still almost tangible. Here are a few images from our quick session. I think they did great, what do you think? And if you want to learn more about Beloved here is the link…

Brandy and Casey – Winter Engagement Photos, Sauk City WI Photographer
Brandy and Casey love skiing so when we first started planning their winter engagement photos we thought about capturing them in their element on a ski slope. However, since winter wasn’t generous with the snow this year, we decided to stay in Sauk City WI and do more urban engagement session. And it worked out great as these two are so easy to photograph and so sweet together. There was still some snow left on the ground so instead of skis we played with sleds. Thank you for a fun session! I can’t wait to capture your wedding in August, I am sure we won’t have to bundle up then

Winners of the Best of 2011 Photo Contest – Sauk Prairie WI Wedding Photographer
Thank you so much for participating in my first ever best photo contest
I hope you had as much fun as I did following your excitement and all the comments and “likes” on Facebook. This week I was faced with a challenging task of validating and tallying up all the votes. After counting and re-checking everything three times I can share with you now that the winners are… Kathleen and Ryan from image #31! Their prize is a beautiful 16×20 float wrap with a wedding image of their choice. Congratulations! But that is not all… Originally I didn’t plan on having a second place, however I decided to offer it after all the effort that Jessica and Brett (from image #26) put into campaigning for their winning portrait. With just a few votes less than the winning couple, they will receive an 11×14 art print.
Thanks again for all your kind words and support, it truly means a lot
It was a great 2011 thanks to all of you and now I am looking forward to an even better 2012!

Elizabeth and Gabe – Devil’s Head Wedding, Baraboo WI Wedding Photographer
This was one amazing wedding! The day started at a Devil’s Head Resort condo near Baraboo WI, where Elizabeth’s Mom and her bridesmaids were helping her to get ready. This is also where Gabe came (in a golf cart) to see his bride for the first time that day. And she looked stunning! After the first look we were off to do some wedding party shots. Elizabeth and Gabe had a BIG wedding party – 20 friends and family members stood up for them — their love and support for the wedding couple was almost tangible. Sometimes a limo will do, other times you need a school bus and this is what we used to ride to Devil’s Lake State Park. Gabe is a serious rock climber so he knows the park very well. It’s beautiful there in October (or actually any time of the year
), we stopped at a wild prairie for group shots and a few portraits of Bride and Groom. The wedding ceremony took place in Concordia United Methodist Church in Prairie du Sac, WI. Gabe was just glowing with happiness when he saw Elizabeth walking with her dad down the aisle. The reception at Devil’s Head Resort followed. After dinner a lot of guests shared their stories about Elizabeth and Gabe and I must admit that they were all so moving and emotional that I almost forgot about taking photos (well, not really – but there were quite a few people wiping a tear or two). I loved their world music choices. However the band that arrived later was even more awesome; their music was so inviting that the dancing floor was just packed with people and nobody was sitting at the tables. Some of the guests turned out to be very talented joining in with the band with singing and playing. And after all that the following day Elizabeth and Gabe were off to their honey moon in Cuba! How cool is that? Enjoy the sneak peeks (wherever you are
)

Abby and Jon – Engagement Photos, Sauk Prairie WI
Abby and Jon met at one of the more unusual Wisconsin events – The State Cow Chip Throw hosted every year right here in Prairie du Sac, WI. The proposal was a little more romantic than a poop throwing contest
It happened in Jon’s home town in Michigan, after a baseball game. Despite the fact that the team they were rooting for lost – Abby and Jon both won that day. With all of his buddies present he proposed kneeling down just in front of the stadium and shocked and happy Abby said “yes”. They both are such enthusiastic sports fans, no wonder that after their engagement session they were off to Madison to watch a Badger game. Wishing you many more winning moments. Enjoy your little preview!

Katie and Jake – Engagement Photos, Spring Green WI
Another fall engagement session with another great couple. Katie and Jake are fun, radiating good energy, quick to laugh, so in love and just happy together. They were constantly brightening the location with their smiles. It was easy to photograph their inner glow and beautiful spirit. We met in a park near Spring Green WI where they both come from and where they are going to have their wedding next year. Can’t wait
Thank you for choosing me for your big day! And now to the sneak peeks…
