WPPI 2014 Conference and Expo – Wedding and Portrait Photographers International

WPPI-2014-conference_01

What a week it was! Last week was the WPPI 2014 Conference and Expo and it means that about 20 thousand wedding and portrait photographers from all over the world traveled to MGM Grand in sunny Las Vegas, NV to learn, practice, reconnect with friends from all over the country, make new friends, network, admire others’ talents and get lost on a huge trade show floor. This was my fifth time attending the WPPI convention and as always it was difficult not to feel overwhelmed with all that was happening during the week. At the same time all the events, classes and meetings always help me recharge my creative batteries and get inspired how to do better both as an artist as well as a business person.

This year for the first time I attended live print competition judging. For two days judges from around the world spent hours in several almost completely dark rooms judging prints. It was an amazing learning experience to listen them score photographs in several categories. I’ve never submitted my work for a competition but who knows, maybe next year I will…

There are always hundreds of hours of classes at WPPI. It’s impossible to attend them all, but before leaving while still at home I prepared a plan and was able to attend every class on my list and even a few more. Now I have a notebook full of notes and ideas to review and hopefully implement at least some of them this year. Below are just some of the classes I went to this year.

Between classes it was trade show time! With two huge ball rooms filled with over 300 hundred exhibitors this was like a photographers’ candy store: latest gear, new print lab products, new services and solutions. It was a great opportunity to see, touch and compare beautiful products, learn about new software, talk to the vendors, watch hands-on demonstrations and forget about time…

After 5 days at the WPPI 2014 Conference and Expo I felt tired, overwhelmed,  under slept and  my feet hurt from all the walking around MGM Grand. I don’t mind though, because as always attending this conference was one of the best things I do for myself in entire year.  And that wasn’t all, wait for the next blog post where I’ll share what exciting things my friend Patrycja and I did after the conference. 🙂  Till then!
