WPPI 2012 – International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas

Another WPPI convention in Vegas  is now behind me… It was a very eventful week, full of networking with photog friends from different states and exploring a huge photo trade show. But for me,  learning came first. This is what I love about photography – there is always something new to learn, it never stops, and you can always grow and get better.

This year I focused my education on lighting, posing and learning about the art of running a photography business. This usually is the most challenging part for those who loved photography so much that they decided to turn it into a career. It takes so much more than taking beautiful images to run a successful, profitable business that can support your family. This is my goal, I am committed to achieve it and I know that the knowledge I came back with will help me with that… I am so glad I was able to attended quite a few classes delivered by successful photographers who are happy to share their knowledge and experiences with others.

The trade show was another draw for me. I enjoyed the chance to meet and talk with my vendors and see, feel and touch what they offer. After reviewing several great new items, I am excited to share these new heirloom quality products with my clients this year.

Below are a few images of some most inspiring speakers I saw this year as well as the Vegas Strip in the early morning hours (the only time I had an opportunity and energy to stroll there :-) )…

Best of 2011 Contest – Vote For Your Favorite Photo – Prairie du Sac, WI Photographer

When I thought about what to write about for my first blog post in 2012, I had an idea to make it into a contest. So here we go…!

Let’s go back to 2011 and enjoy it for a little longer… Here are my favorite images from all the weddings, family and senior sessions that I had a pleasure to capture last year. It was almost an impossible task to pick just one photograph from each session. If I had to do it again my choices would probably be different, but here in this post are my first impressions of favorites.

Now, it’s your turn and the fun part – the best of Ania Fields Photo Art 2011 contest.

Who wins?

Client(s) with the image receiving the most votes.

What is the prize?

One 16×20 float wrap using an image of their choice taken from last year’s session or wedding.

How to vote for your favorite photo?

1. You can vote for ONE image only.

2. Choose your favorite photo below (one and only!) and vote for it by leaving a comment below this post (just click on “leave the comment” link on the bottom under the last photo). In the comment box share the number of your favorite photo AND ALSO write why you like it most.

3. Bonus vote: You can have one extra vote for the same image. To receive it, just go to my Facebook Page and “like” it, to become a fan (if you haven’t done it yet :-) ) Then go to the “Best of 2011 Contest” photo gallery and click “like” on the same ONE image you chose in the blog. Votes on Facebook will count only from people who both “like” Ania Fields Photo Art business page AND ALSO left a comment on the blog.

4. Voting closes on Sunday January 15th, 2012 at midnight CST

Please follow the rules above so that your votes count and share this contest with family and friends. I will do my best to validate and tally up all the votes correctly and will announce the winner here on the blog. Thank you for all your support and trust in 2011. WPPI 2011, Las Vegas NV

I am back from my second WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) – one of the biggest photo conventions in the world. 16 thousand photographers came to MGM Grand in Vegas last week to learn, share, connect and get inspired. It was again an amazing experience for me. With almost a hundred classes to choose from, many workshops and more than 300 exhibitors at a trade show the days were very intense. My head is still spinning from all that I saw, learned and experienced. Last year I went with a friend but this time I traveled alone. It was easy to feel overwhelmed and intimidated by so many talented artists. I must admit I am proud of myself that I did find the courage to open up, connect with friends that I knew from different online groups and make some new ones as well. Now I have a big project back home: to go through all my notes and apply the best ideas to my business.

Polka on the Riverway – Prairie du Sac Photographer

I have just finished making final touches to my first window display in downtown Prairie du Sac, WI. A  Sauk Prairie Chamber of Commerce initiative enabled local business owners — who do not have a retail space — to showcase their art and services. Tomorrow is the first big day – with an annual event – Polka on the Riverway. More than 1500 people are expected to come to downtown Prairie du Sac. If you are in the area, please visit my window display (and more inside) in Eagle View building on Water Street.  Hope to see you there!

CSDA Dance Recital – Prairie du Sac Photographer

Dance, dance, dance . . . and dance some more.  Dancers from Center Stage Dance Academy in Sauk City, WI floated yesterday over the stage with brilliance and grace. From adorable preschoolers to high school seniors entering a new phase of life and leaving their indelible spirit on the local community this was an event to remember.  During this recital I captured over 1000 images  – and now I am off to New Mexico to get some great landscape shots. Although I did not have time to process everything before leaving, here are some pictures that highlight this wonderful night.  I will be working on the rest of the pictures to post the best to my gallery by June 20th. I promise :-)

6/17 UPDATE: All recital photos are online now. If you are a parent- you know where to see them :-)

WPPI Convention in Las Vegas

I am back from Vegas! It was cold and rainy week, but it didn’t really matter too much because there was so much to do at WPPI convention with no time to spare. Two huge trade show rooms and tons of workshops, presentations, talks covering everything a photographer may want. The presenters were people that ‘made it work’ and based on their encouragement, I know that I can too :-)

In one workshop my favorite -Kevin Kubota- inspired us to grow as a photographer through self-assignments. He challenged us to do an alphabet hunt while at the convention in Las Vegas. Instead of just looking at people gambling, I had something to do between the workshops. This was a project – and so much fun! The interesting part is that I did not even need to leave the MGM Grand Hotel to find these images. I admit that “N” and “R” were challenging. What do YOU think?
