Fall Colors, Captured – Sauk Prairie, WI Photographer
Leaves are all gone and the snow is right around the corner. I thought I would share with you a few images that I captured back in October. Here are some last beautiful Wisconsin fall colors, my barefoot hikers and mysterious berries we found while hiking. They looked tempting, delicious, juicy and very big (2in in diameter). However since we didn’t know what they are, we just left them on the tree. If you do know if these are edible, please share and I will tell you where to find them next year

Eagle Watching Days in Sauk Prairie – Prairie du Sac WI Photographer
Our small town turns into a very special place each winter, bald eagles from the north migrate to our undeveloped shoreline along the Wisconsin River. It’s pretty amazing how many returned this year. Hundreds of eagles spend the winter here, roosting in deep valleys nearby and fishing below a hydroelectric plant, whose turbines stun fish and make them easy pickings. Unfortunately, I don’t own a premium telephoto lens but even with my portrait one I was able to capture several of these majestic birds perching on their favorite trees. If you look closely you’ll be able to spot 5 or 6 eagles on each photo. We went eagle watching earlier this week and counted almost 28 in half an hour!! This weekend are official Eagle Watching Days in Sauk Prairie, WI, so if you want to spot an eagle in their natural habitat I invite you to head our way to Sauk City and Prairie du Sac (and check out The Ferry Bluff Eagle Council website for a full schedule of events).

Winter Arrived – Prairie du Sac WI Photographer
Winter is here, to stay, for good, if you like it or not… So I choose to like it
With the first snow last weekend the kids were all excited to go sledding. So we bundled up and headed to Indian Lake Park. We had a sledding hill all for ourselves and enjoyed it fully. The next stop was The Tree Farm nearby, where we found one perfect Christmas tree for our home. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw flowers all covered with snow but still blooming with color. Nature is amazing. It’s been snowing today again. I guess all that snow and cold is a good excuse to bake some cookies, sit by the pellet stove and enjoy them with hot tea

Metamorphosis – Prairie du Sac, WI Photographer
Every summer we find black swallowtail caterpillars in our garden. Each year they choose one kind of plant, either parsley or dill or carrot leaves to munch on. And each year my kids pick them up, bring them home and turn them into our summer pets. It’s amazing to watch how much they eat and how quickly they grow. Usually within less than a month we have colorful butterflies. They are so full of energy and fly out so quickly, I was lucky to capture just one after his (or her
metamorphosis.

Taking the Time in Baxter’s Hollow – Sauk Prairie, WI Photographer
I had a busy week with several sessions to process. I could have easily got lost in editing all day but fortunately the kids didn’t let me
They convinced me to go for a hike. The day was beautiful and hot so we decided to head down to cool and shaded Baxter’s Hollow, one of our local State Natural Areas in Sauk County, WI. So good to slow down sometimes and just appreciate… Here are my two explorers in action.

Hemlock Draw – Nature Photography, Sauk County WI
Another beautiful weekend, another perfect day for a hike and another discovery. This time we decided to explore Hemlock Draw State Natural Area in Sauk County, WI. A path along Honey Creek was too easy to follow for the kids and they preferred walking in the water instead. After an hour of slow hiking we got to a huge sandstone rock wall with a small waterfall. Wild and amazing view… Pictures can’t truly capture it but of course I took several anyway
Enjoy!

Spring Hike – Nature Photography, McGilvra Woods and Pewit’s Nest, Baraboo, WI
Another beautiful spring Sunday, perfect for a family hike. We were running out of new places until I found this DNR website with all State Natural Areas listed by county. It was a true revelation to discover that there is sooo much to see yet! Let me know if you’ve been to some of these and share your impressions. Most of them are hidden gems that very few people visit. Wild and gorgeous…

Spring Hike – Parfrey’s Glen, Sauk County WI
Spring came early this year, it’s a middle of April and we already have asparagus coming up in our garden! Last weekend we decided to check how one of our local favorite places- Parfrey’s Glen looks like after the winter; the forest was teaming with plant life. Everything was green and growing. The rock formations look like dinosaurs might step from behind the next curve. Here you will see why we like this exotic destination ‘in our back yard’.

And here an asparagus spear from our garden, hard to believe that it's already this big in the middle of April.
Frosty Mornings – Sauk Prairie, WI
The world looked magical today on Wisconsin River in Prairie du Sac. The trees covered with frost seemed enchanted. So I rushed home from my early morning meeting, grabbed my camera and went in search of pictures. Here are some of them.

First Snow Day – Sauk Prairie WI
The kids were ecstatic when they saw all the snow today and found out that the schools in Sauk Prairie were canceled. I managed to sneak out before them to capture a few images with the snow still intact. The world seemed so peaceful…
